What is vitamin B12 for and why do we need so much of it?

You may have noticed that our formula contains 500 µg of vitamin B12, a much higher amount than what is typically found in a daily multivitamin supplement. There are several reasons for this.

Vitamin B12 plays an important role in sperm production and the functioning of the male reproductive system. Along with folic acid, it contributes to the normal metabolism of homocysteine. High levels of homocysteine have been associated with lower sperm quality, decreased sperm count and motility, and increased DNA fragmentation.

It can also be difficult to obtain enough vitamin B12 through diet alone. It is naturally found primarily in animal-based foods, and its absorption can be affected by certain medical conditions or by taking certain medications, particularly antacids.

Since B12 is important for DNA replication, a regular intake is particularly relevant during the sperm production cycle, which lasts approximately three months. This is why our Male Fertility Pack contains 500 µg of methylcobalamin, a bioavailable form of vitamin B12.
